Man Charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide

Following a horrific accident on the Taconic State Parkway a man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. on August 15 when 34 year old Nerim Sinanovic was driving his SUV just to the north of Baldwin Road in Yorktown. He took his hands off the steering wheel and turned around using his knees to steer. The car veered right so his wife grabbed the steering wheel and the car went airborne over the median landing on top of two southbound vehicles, a 2001 Toyota and a 2015 Ford.

All three people in the Toyoata were killed, two within hours and one died a month later.

Sinanovic’s daughters, 2 and 1, were both in child seats but were ejected from the vehicle. The 2-year-old, Leona, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the crash, toxicology showed that Sinanovic had a high level of Xanax in his system and he has now been arraigned on four counts of criminally negligent homicide, one count of reckless driving, and speeding. If convicted he faces two to four years in a state prison.
