On Saturday, July 9, a drunken tow truck operator was arrested having rammed a Connecticut State Police Cruiser on the Interstate.
According to authorities, White Plains police were in pursuit of a Bob’s Towing truck being driven by 21 year old Jheison Callecastro, which was traveling northbound on 1 95. The police said they believed that the truck was responsible for a pedestrian hit and run. White Plains police communicated with Connecticut State police who positioned themselves on the I 95 with stop sticks but that did not stop the truck and it continued northbound.
Finally the truck exited the highway at exit 14 and reentered the I 95 but this time going southbound.
Troopers then set up more stop sticks at exit 8 southbound, and exit 4, and each time one tire on the truck deflated. Callecastro however continued and then rammed an unoccupied police cruiser at exit 3, at which time the tow truck burst into flames.
He was taken into custody and charged with multiple crimes including criminal attempt/assault on a police officer, assault with a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, engaging in a pursuit, reckless driving and DWI for alcohol.
